Math Placement

All incoming freshmen (including transfer students with less than 30 transferrable hours),

Transfer students with 30+ hours of transfer credit may choose to take the Math Placement exam through the institutional math placement (paper version), or the online version at Orientation/Courseware portal.

The Institutional Math Placement exam is administered to place students in certain math courses. It is a 90-minute multiple-choice test used to determine what a student’s first UH math course should be. The test may be taken only once. It is used for placement purposes only, and not for awarding credit.

The Institutional Math Placement exam is administered every week on Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. During peak times, additional dates are available.

Fee:  $10.00
Duration:  1 hour and 30 minutes
Results available:  Next day after 1:00 pm

Satisfactory performance on the math placement exam may qualify students for math courses above College Algebra.

Students must present copies of SAT/ACT/TASP scores or placement exam results during the first class meeting.

MATH PLACEMENT REQUIREMENTS:
The Math Placement Exam is required for all new students (freshmen and transfer*) beginning in the fall 2007 semester.

*Transfer students with 30+ hours of transfer credit may still elect to take the online Math Placement Exam or the Institutional Math Placement Exam in order to be placed in the appropriate math course.

Take the exam that is appropriate for your situation. If you are unsure, ask your advisor.
