Practicum Internship A full 16-20 hour/week practicum in learning strategies counseling is available at Learning Support Services. This counseling assists students in developing better learning strategies and building self-confidence.
Counselors are trained in forming therapeutic relationships, assessment, treatment planning, intervention, and professional documentation of records. Intervention training is based on those psycho-educational elements of strategic learning that are determined to be effective by learning theory and research. A training course in related matters such as ethics, brief therapy, and cross-cultural counseling is conducted, and supervision is provided.
This practicum has been staffed by master’s level educational psychology students, but applications from other mental health fields can be discussed. The emphasis on academic rather than personal issues makes the internship ideal for those interested in a career in an academic setting.
